To answer your question. Yes, technically anything can be connected to the tod Smart Beacon as
long as the power requirements were adequately addressed and firmware
was written to manage the data and the connection.

Isn't the Expanded developer similar to pledging $435 for the DEVELOPER and LARGE KNOT, with the only difference being that you'd get 10 extra tōds instead of the 9 on this potential new tier (thus costing $27 more?)

Not saying that it's bad and I know you guys are operating very near or at cost here, just hoped for a tiny bit more.

Maybe something like throwing in a few more of those hard to find female cables :-)

Actually this brings a question: does developer level come with a cable for connecting the breadboard to the tōd or is this something we have to hack?
